I’ve had the pleasure of conducting and directing a variety of orchestras and ensembles over the course of the last twenty or so years – from amateur ensembles and youth orchestras to professional chamber orchestras. However these conducting engagements have been relatively sparse as I wasn’t making any attempts to actively do more:
This all changed in 2007 when I was approached to become the conductor of Ely Sinfonia, an amateur orchestra based in…..Ely!
I quickly developed a real love for conducting; it seemed a natural extension of my years of experience as a professional orchestral leader. Having played a huge amount of repertoire over the years, and having worked with many of the world’s top conductors I really relished the chance to use that experience from the conductor’s rostrum.
Ely Sinfonia has given me that opportunity and I am now actively looking for other conducting positions, with both amateur and professional groups. I’m excited by the possibilities of developing this area of my work over the coming years.
A broad cross-section of the repertoire I have conducted over recent years includes the following:

This is just a small selection: Thinking about it reminds me just how the list adds up over time – and there are still many, many pieces on my “wish list”!
Conducting highlights over the next 12 months include Stravinsky “Firebird” Suite, Tchaikovsky “Capriccio Italien”, Saint-Saens Cello Concerto no.1, Beethoven Symphony no.1, Vaughan-Williams “Serenade To Music”, Elgar “Serenade” for strings, Schoenberg “Verklarte Nacht”, Dvorak Cello Concerto with Raphael Wallfisch, Wagner “Tannhauser” Overture and more.
Please do contact me for any further information, or if you are interested in booking me to conduct your orchestra or ensemble.
